Text Box: On January 8, 2010, for His Majesty, Chancellor Eric von Bernenstein issued the following Press Release: Emperor Norton Remembrance Day January 8, 2010 Emperor Norton Remembrance Day was celebrated throughout the Kingdom of Ruritania with parties held by every strata of society. Her majesty, Queen Anastasia held a tea party yesterday afternoon at 4 o’clock for the Court and members of the Foreign Diplomatic corps presently assigned to Embassies in Strelsau. Emperor Norton Day balls were held this evening. The ball that was held at the Royal Palace was by invitation only and began precisely at 8 when His Majesty, King Wilhelm-Rudolf, led Queen Anastasia onto the floor to the traditional strains of The Emperor’s Waltz. A grand fireworks display in the Palace Gardens was held at midnight and was followed by a formal dinner. Text Box: His Majesty’s Address for the Kingdom 2010 On this New Years Day, 2010, we enter not only a new year, but soon, a new decade, in Our beloved Ruritania. Let us continue to work, strive, and improve not only in our personal endeavors, but as a great Micronation. In the coming year, we will face great challenges. As always the People of Ruritania will meet those challenges head on, whatever they may be. In the past year we have encountered some difficult times. Ruritania and her people have faced each obstacle and emerged victorious. We have made our Kingdom known to the far reaches of the Globe with our presence on the Internet. We have opened diplomatic relations with several other Micronations. We have welcomed the first of our cyber-citizens. We have planted two rare Wolemi Pines which are thriving in the Royal Botanical Gardens. We have established two new Consulates within the United States in the cities of New Orleans and Las Vegas. Yes, 2009 was troubled year, but Ruritania made great strides forward. 2010 and the coming decade will demand all our courage, determination, and strength. Ruritanians will unite to fight prejudice in all its forms. We will build where necessary and move onward and upward. We will demand recognition of our Kingdom from nations great and small. Knowing that we must always remain vigilant against the incursions by our ancient enemy, the Swiss. Too long have we slept in our remote mountains and deep forests. Text Box: On this day, March 8, 2010, the Kingdom of Ruritania established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Castia. Text Box: March 15, 2010, His Majesty, King Wilhelm-Rudolf celebrated His 62nd birthday. After skydiving, a state dinner at the Castle of Zenda was held. It was followed by a grand ball, where their Majesties danced to the strains of the Royal Ruritanian Waltz. Text Box: On this day, February 1, 2010, His Royal Majesty King Wilhelm-Rudolf bestows on Mr. Mel Brooks the title of Knight of the Royal Order of Henry the Lion. For his lifetime achievements in the arts and his continued fight against bigotry, Sir Mel is most deserving of the highest order of knighthood in Ruritania. We also wish to thank Sir Mel for his mention of Ruritania in his play Young Frankenstein. The title, Knight of the Royal Order of Henry the Lion, was created in 1710 by King Henry II, the order is traditionally awarded to courtiers who have accomplished some significant service for the Crown. Their badge is a gold lion. Text Box: March 28, 2010, Their Royal Highnesses King Wilhelm-Rudolf and Queen Anastasia, wish all Ruritanian Christians and Christians throughout the world a blessing on the upcoming holiday of Easter. Text Box: On Wednesday April 14, 2010, Our most Regal King, Wilhelm-Rudolf had emergency surgery for his heart. The King suffers from Arterial Fibulation. An Arterial oblation was preformed and the operation was deemed successful. His Majesty will have to stay in bed rest and limited duties while undergoing recovery for the next 8 weeks. The King has appointed Queen Anastasia as temporary regent. The King wishes to thank all those people, rulers, and monarchs who wrote wishing Him a speedy recovery. Text Box: On Thursday April 22, 2010, Our Most Royal Queen, Anastasia, celebrated her birthday with a formal dinner. The King appeared at the dinner to help the Queen enjoy the day. Also in attendance were the two Grand Duchesses, Prince Gregor, and the Prince and Princess. Plus over 100 quests dinned with the royal family. The Royal Butler, Adran, made sure that everything was wonderful. A great time was had by all. His Royal Majesty Wilhelm-Rudolf wishes to thank President Alex Pate for his assistance in the negotiations. His Majesty is looking forward to continued friendship with The Republic of Patetopia. His Royal Majesty King Wilhelm-Rudolf wishes Thomas II, Grand Duke of Aquitaine all the best and looks forward to a long beneficial friendship. Text Box: On Saturday, May 1, 2010, Queen Anastasia, in Her position as Regent, informed King Wilhelm-Rudolf that Ruritania established Treaties of Friendship and Recognition with the Republic of Alanland and the Consulate of Jovak Helm. Text Box: On Monday, May 17, 2010, King Wilhelm-Rudolf passed away from unexpected and unforeseen causes. Rumors have begun that his death may have been the work of the Swiss Consortium. The Knights of the Blue Primrose have begun investigating this, at the Queen’s request. Per Ruritanian law and custom, as well as the late King’s will and wishes, Queen Anastasia has assumed the throne.
